Thanks oxinorm, you set me on the right track.[0A][0A]Full instructions for Windows 7: right mouse click the network icon and select "Open Network and Sharing Center", or get there via Start, Control Panel, Network etc. Then in left panel, select change adapter settings, right-mouse click the connection that is used to connect to the internet (a broadband modem in my case), Select Properties, click the Sharing tab, tick the box "Allow other network users...", select the virtual modem as the Home network connection to share it over, and that should be enough, click OK.[0A]

Everything works fine in my Acer Win8 laptop, but every time when I exit from virtual wifi router, I get this message: sorry :( application has crashed check log for more details then after I click OK, the windows message comes that "check for a solution online & stop the program". Is there a way to do a normal exit of virtual wifi router?

New Post: Virtual Router says device not functioning. No fix working

I downloaded the software months ago. Never been able to use it. Same error message. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my adapters ,updated, used the "allow hosted network mode" command, which returned a positive response. Under the advanced tab of the properties dialog box of my wireless adapter, I saw that adhoc 11n was disabled. I enabled it and finally saw the virtual adapter in the network and sharing center under change adapter settings. I always wondered why it never showed. I disabled the adhoc 11n property again a few mins ago, and the virtual adapter no longer shows, so I suppose that was part of the problem. But even though I turned on sharing for my current connection and enabled that adhoc thingy, I still get the same response(device connected not functioning). I've resorted to using elevated commands to try to find the culprit. My system obviously supports hosted networks, and I update windows regularly. I also manually updated the adapters. Please, please, please, If anyone can help I'd appreciate. I'm fed up. Wifi is something I really need. Cellular data's a b*tch.

How can make sure your app is compatible with my laptop?
Or
vice versa?
Comments: ** Comment from web user: D3FCON **

Step 1.
Go to control panel.
Step 2.
Go to administrative tools.
Step 3.
Go to component services.
Step 4.
Click on Services (Local)
Step 5.
Scroll down to VirtualRouterService
Step 6.
Right click and choose START

Should be sweet now. Also make sure it was set to automatic

This was for windows 8 but should be the same for all of them

Rated 2 Stars (out of 5) - It's not completed, but it works great as a virtual router. ...With any user-friendly program, the user should have the ability to turn off features. On the machine I have this installed on, it auto-starts with Windows7 and will not Exit. (I have to use task manager, to end process). Also, it does not come with an uninstaller. Maybe a warning in the description?

i am using virtual router on windows 8.1 and whenever i run it gives me this error "the wireless area network interface is powered down and doesn't support the requested operation"
Comments: ** Comment from web user: SwasGeek **

(User of windows 8.1)
If your problem hasn't been solved yet then follow these steps(the exact solution might be step 2):

1. Check if hosted network is supported
Type: netsh wlan show drivers
and check for Hosted network supported: Yes

if (yes)
2.Turn WiFi on your system (otherwise you'll still get the error: the wireless area network interface is powered down and doesn't support the requested operation

3. Press Windows button+x+m and open administrator command prompt

4. Type:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow
netsh wlan start hostednetwork

correction:

if (yes)
ii) Turn WiFi on your system (otherwise you'll still get the error: the wireless area network interface is powered down and doesn't support the requested operation)
iii) Press Windows button+x+m and open administrator command prompt
iv) Type:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
