New Post: I am getting error

Created Unassigned: Intermittent breaks in service [25146]

I have been running Virtual Router for 2 days using my desktop as a hotspot to connect my MacBook Air to the internet. Every half hour or so data transmission stops completely, although the network still displays as connected on my MacBook. Internet access stops, torrents drop down to 0 kb/s and for all intents and purposes the computer is no longer connected to the internet.

Internet is still completely fine on my desktop computer, but for some reason the hotspot created by Virtual Router appears to stop working. After about 5 minutes service will resume.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Rated 1 Stars (out of 5) - I have used V0.9 of this program for over 2 years with no problem. However, for the last 4 days it has caused me endless difficulty. In particular, I find myself unable to connect to the internet at all while running Virtual Router. Yesterday it took me 3 installs and 5 restarts to get the software running. I have also tried v1.0 and the knock off copy called Virtual Router Plus. Same experience, all crap. I have a $100 Android phone that NEVER FAILS to function correctly as a Wifi hotspot. Why does this software give me so much grief on my laptop? Virtual Router will NEVER again be installed on any computer in this house.

Rated 1 Stars (out of 5) - I have used V0.9 of this program for over 2 years with no problem. However, for the last 4 days it has caused me endless difficulty. In particular, today I find myself unable to connect to the internet at all while running Virtual Router. Yesterday it took me 3 installs and 5 restarts to get a connection with my IPod Touch, which dropped out after 45 minutes and could not be re-established. I have also tried v1.0 and the latest version of Virtual Router Plus. None of them work properly. Apart from the Win2008R2 machine I normally use, I also have a Win8.1 laptop on which the software is similarly non-functional. Although this program has been enormously helpful to me in the past I cannot recommend this software given my recent experience.

Hi guys,
Ive made a little program that you can run in a batch file, so you dont have to type out those commands everytime. Ive tested it with ipods streaming music via airplay and with android devices, everything works fine with what ive tested. All you have to do is copy the code below into a text file and then rename it to 'anyname'.bat and paste into a folder called WLAN-AP in your program files then make a short cut of the bat file and edit the shortcut so that it runs as administrator by default. You might have to make two other text files in the same folder as the bat file called AP-KEY and another called AP-SSID, just make sure the names of the text files are correct, you dont need to type anything into them. Heres the code:

@echo ***************************************
@echo * -------- Windows 7 WLAN AP -------- *
@echo ***************************************
@echo off
:Start
Set /p Choice=Please Enter Choice --- "1" AP-On, "2" AP-Off, "3" AP-Settings, "4" AP-Config:
If /i %Choice%==1 goto On
If /i %Choice%==2 goto Off
If /i %Choice%==3 goto Details
If /i %Choice%==4 goto Configure
If /i %Choice% LSS 1 goto CError
If /i %Choice% GTR 4 goto CError

:On
netsh wlan start hostednetwork>>null
@echo ----- WLAN-AP Started -----
Goto Start

:Off
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork>>null
@echo ----- WLAN-AP Stopped -----
Goto Start

:Details
CD C:/Program Files/WLAN AP
Set /p SSID=<AP-SSID.txt
Set /p Key=<AP-KEY.txt
@Echo ***************************************
@Echo * --------- WLAN AP Settings ---------
@Echo * AP SSID: %SSID%
@Echo * AP KEY: %KEY%
@Echo ***************************************
Goto Start

:Configure
CD C:\Windows\System32\
Set /p SSID=Please Enter AP-SSID:
Set /p KEY=Please Enter AP-KEY:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=%SSID% key=%KEY%>>null
CD C:/Program Files/WLAN AP
Echo %SSID%>AP-SSID.txt
Echo %KEY%>AP-KEY.txt
@echo ----- WLAN-AP Configured -----
Goto Start

:CError
@echo ***************************************
@echo * -------------- Error -------------- *
@Echo * The Choice Selected Does Not Exist *
@echo ***************************************
Goto Start

Its the first time ive written a bat file so if there are horrible techniques... well sorry.
Oh and you have to manually share the connection with internet to the wifi connection, but you only have to do this once

New Post: Share internet to an Ethernet port and wireless simultaneously

The Issue:
I have tried many different things but for the life of my I can't get windows to share internet to an Ethernet port and to a wireless card at the same time.

The Setup:
I have a Windows 7 64bit computer with 2 Ethernet ports and a wireless card. I have one Ethernet port connected directly to a cable modem(Lets call this EWAN) and I would like to share the internet to anther computer via the other Ethernet port(Lets call this ELAN) and a few other devices via the wireless adapter on the PC.

What Works:
  1. Virtual Router works to share internet from my cable modem to wireless devices even with WPA2 enabled. CHECK
  2. Turning off Virtual Router and turning on ICS to share from my Ethernet port connect to my modem to the other one connected to anther computer. CHECK
  3. Bridging both my wireless card and "ELAN" together via the "Bridge Connections" windows option and then sharing my "EWAN" to the newly created "Network bridge". Next I created a adhoc network. It worked! I Get IPs from both the "ELAN" card and any wireless devices that can connect via adhoc mode. HOWEVER this solution does not work for me as NONE of my devices seem to connect adhoc mode when WPA2 is on (only WEP) for some reason. ALSO (The biggest issue) I have devices that don't support adhoc at all, like a Windows 8 PC.
The Road Blocks:
  1. I turned on Virtual Router and select to share my "EWAN" port. Used "Bridge Connections" to bridge my "ELAN" port and my wireless card. Tested wireless and it was still working at this point. HOWEVER my "ELAN" port wasn't giving out an IP. So I tried to set a static ip on the other client computer connect to the "ELAN" port but nothing is going though. Can't even ping the other computer with "ping 192.168.137.1".
  2. I tired using the "Bridge Connections" options on my "ELAN" and my wireless card then running the following in a cmd prompt as Admin:
    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=MySSID key=MyPassword
    netsh wlan start hosted network
    Then I turn on sharing of my "EWAN" card to the newly created "Network bridge". In this configuration I get an IP address from the computer connected to my ELAN port but nothing that connects to the wireless.
  3. It seems window's ICS(Internet Connection Sharing) is limited to sharing only one connection at a time and Virtual Router (and the netsh commend it uses) also requires ICS to share an adapter.
  4. The "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter" that Virtual Router creates (uses Wireless Hosted Network from what I can tell) isn't bridgeable. When I right click on it I do not see the "Bridge Connections" options I see all my other NICs.

Tried:
I tried mHotspot and it does the exact same thing as Virtual Router but the installer is filled with adware and crashes with .Net errors. I would not recommend anyone using it!

Tried:
I tried Connectify and it worked! I could use it to share my "EWAN" port over wifi while not tying up a shared connection in the Network Connections in the control panel. However when running Connectify and ICS at the same time it made one of the svchost.exe process instances take up 100% of my CPU. It was also creating stutters in the internet because of this for it and the other computers connected to it.

WORKS!
I used devcon.exe to create an empty bridge and bindbrige.exe to configure it to bridge my "ELAN" to the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter". See this post for details. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17588957/programmatically-create-destroy-network-bridges-with-net-on-windows-7
Note you can use "devcon hwids *" to get your <deviceId> for your NICs and should be "PCI\VEN_...." for the real NIC and "{XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}\VWIFIMP....." for the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter". I hope this helps anyone else who was looking to make a PC router that can host interent over both infrastructure wifi and a wired port.

HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component

I get the same error when I try to start Virtual Router v1.0 with any shared connection other than None. Win7 Pro, latest updates, HP EliteBook 8740w laptop.

Hi all

I was experiencing the same issue as everybody else - within 2 days of installing the software I could no longer use the Virtual Router and the netsh commands did not work.

I eventually came across this windows hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2496820
Description: Applications that use Virtual WiFi technology do not work after you restart a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

I don't think the Virtual Router will work until I reboot but I followed the commands here: http://everydaylife.globalpost.com/convert-3g-modem-wifi-hotspot-32528.html

And now I can share my 3G connection with no issues

Hope this helps somebody

I am having exactly the same problem, strangely it used to work perfectly before

Toshiba L755-s5275
Win 7pro + updates etc

Any ideas of how to solve this would be greatly appreciated, I have done the obvious thing of a complete uninstall and re-install
